Some much-awaited Austrians and the return of Hamara Bajaj!

The year might be coming to a close, but there’s still some last-minute action in the form of a few late launches. Some of these are mere BS6 updates but there are also some very exciting new bikes coming to our shores soon! Here’s the complete list:

KTM 250 Adventure & 390 Adventure

No, you aren’t hallucinating. Yes, the time has finally come. KTM will launch its Adventure series in India for the first time with its 250 Adventure and 390 Adventure models. The two bikes will be launched at India Bike Week in Goa on December 6, with the 390 Adventure already having been unveiled at EICMA a couple of months ago.

Both models sport a 19-inch/17-inch alloy wheel combo, long travel suspension and dual-purpose tyres, with the 390 even getting IMU-assisted traction control and ABS, an optional quickshifter and adjustable suspension at both ends. Expect pricing of around Rs 2.5 lakh for the 250 Adventure and Rs 3 lakh for the 390 Adventure.

Husqvarna 401s

The Austrian cavalry is going to be backed up by some Swedish cousins as well, with KTM’s subsidiary, Husqvarna, launching its Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 models at India Bike Week too. These bikes are based on the same 373.2cc single-cylinder motor that does duty in the KTM 390 range, but are entirely different machines, both in form and purpose.

The Svartpilen is styled to be a rugged looking neo-scrambler with knobby tyres and tall, wide handlebars. The Vitpilen, meanwhile, looks more modern and sleek, sporting a modern cafe racer-ish appearance. Engine output is identical to that of the 390 Duke, but the prices will be not. We expect the Vitpilen to sell for Rs 2.8 lakh while the Svartpilen will be priced at Rs 3 lakh.

Bajaj Chetak Electric

Bajaj is all set to launch its eagerly awaited Chetak e-scooter this month. The hype has been building steadily for the return of this iconic name. Bajaj unveiled the Chetak a couple of months ago and a convoy of 20 scooters then undertook an epic 3,000km journey called Chetak Yatra.

The Chetak will mark the first entry by a major auto manufacturer into the electric two-wheeler segment, and while it doesn’t have any direct competition at the moment, it will have to contend with the Ather 450. We expect Bajaj to price the Chetak at around Rs 1.1 lakh.

Yamaha R15 BS6 and Fascino BS6

Having already updated its FZ-Fi and FZS-Fi models to meet BS6 emission norms earlier this month, Yamaha is now expected to give two more models the same treatment. The models in question include a bike and a scooter each, with the R15 v3 and Fascino both due for a BS6 update.

Though Yamaha hasn’t officially given us a launch date for these two new models, it has sent us a block the date for December 19, and this is when we expect the company to launch the updated versions of these models. We can only hope that the upcoming norms haven’t robbed them of too much performance, though going by recent BS6 launches, things are looking rather bleak.

TVS Apache RTR 160 & Scooty Pep+

TVS is ahead of the game and has already updated its RTR 160 4V and RTR 200 4V Apache models to comply with BS6. However, the brand is not done just yet. We’ve spotted two more of its models, the Apache RTR 160 and Scooty Pep Plus undergoing ARAI testing in Pune.

This hints that the models are quite close to being production-ready and should be launched soon. While TVS hasn’t declared an official launch date yet, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Hosur-based manufacturer launches the two new models in December itself.
