Will feature the same 650cc twin-cylinder engine as the Interceptor
Royal Enfield’s Classic 650 has been spotted completely undisguised, marking its public appearance ahead of its global launch. This new model will be the fifth motorcycle to feature the brand’s 648cc parallel-twin engine platform. The Classic 650 is expected to make its official debut at the EICMA 2024 motorcycle show in Italy this November.
The undisguised images, captured in the UK, suggest that the Classic 650 is nearing its production-ready stage. The bike's design resembles that of the Classic 350, featuring a retro-styled headlamp, mudguards, and a traditional taillight. The fuel tank sports a striking dual-tone finish in maroon and cream, and gets Royal Enfield's classic branding, one of the two new logos trademarked earlier this year. It is expected that the Classic 650 will be offered in several color schemes, similar to the Classic 350.
The motorcycle is built on a tubular steel frame, with suspension duties handled by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. The braking system comprises a 320mm disc with a twin-piston floating caliper up front and a 300mm disc at the rear, both equipped with ABS. This setup is reminiscent of the braking system used on the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. The spied model also showcases chrome-finished engine cases, spoke wheels with tube tyres, and dual pea-shooter exhausts.
Powering the Classic 650 will be the familiar 648cc parallel-twin engine found in the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, Super Meteor 650, and Shotgun 650. This engine produces 47.6PS and 52Nm of torque, and these figures are expected to remain consistent for the Classic 650. The engine will be paired with a 6-speed gearbox. However, there could be minor tweaks in the gearing and engine mapping to better suit the Classic’s relaxed riding dynamics.
Following its expected debut at EICMA 2024, the Classic 650 will likely be showcased at Royal Enfield’s Motoverse event in Goa later this year. The pricing details are expected to be announced during the event, making it one of the most-awaited launches this year.
