We have been reporting about safety kits being launched every now and then. Here is something really out of the league, as this safety gear is introduced by an independent non-profit organisation Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) in the United States. This new kit makes riders know the dangers of riding under the influence of weed (Marijuana) and consists of goggles that act as a simulator and displays the effects of impaired cognition. Though, these goggles don’t show the exact effect of Marijuana but they try to give a picture of how Marijuana will affect the riding skills when one is driving under the influence.
The organisation will release these safety kits in the United States following the increased consumption of Marijuana. Presently, the medicinal use of cannabis (Marijuana) is being legalised in over 23 states. “MSF’s message with our new Riding Straight – Marijuana Awareness Host-An-Event Kit is clear: Do not operate your motorcycle or any motor vehicle if you are impaired by marijuana, and find alternate transportation if you are planning to be under the influence of marijuana at your destination. Not only is it unsafe, but just as with alcohol, riders impaired by marijuana can be convicted of riding under the influence, and be subjected to similar harsh penalties,” said MSF president and CEO, Tim Buche said.
The safety kit is expected to be priced at $595 (Rs. 40,198) and can be purchased by anyone without any certification from the organisation. This could be useful for Indian riders too, as various fatal accidents have been reported in the past few years because of the consumption of pot (Marijuana). Although, the use of Marijuana is not legal in India, but there are many people who consume it and suffer from its after effects.
