Former executive director at Kia Motors India, Kim has 35 years of experience around the world
- Yongsung will lead both domestic and international sales for Ola Electric.
- Ola’s mega factory will be completed next year.
- The factory has a production capacity of 10 million units annually.
- The e-scooter could offer up to 200km on a single charge with its three battery setup.
Ola Electric has been a hot topic ever since it revealed its ambitious electric plans for India and the global market. The brand recently signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to set up the world’s largest two-wheeler factory. It’s currently the only two-wheeler manufacturer to invest in electrics on such a large scale. To help establish its global presence, Ola has now appointed one of the best names in the market -- veteran Yongsung Kim as the Head of Global Sales and Distribution, overseeing India and international markets. He was previously executive director at Hyundai Motor and Kia.
Yongsung brings with him 35 years of global experience from North America, Europe, the UK, the Middle East, Africa, ASEAN, Asia Pacific, and India where he spent several years with Hyundai and Kia to help build their market presence. If that doesn’t tell you how serious Ola is, we don’t know what will. He’ll be responsible for spearheading both the domestic and international strategy for sales and the go-to-market for Ola Electric. The company is currently busy gearing up to launch its first electric scooter in India and multiple international markets including Europe and the UK, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.

Yongsung says he's elated to join Ola Electric and its team to help develop a winning strategy for India and global sales for its range of EV products, beginning with the Ola Scooter. “With this new assignment, I also returned to India, where I had spent several years in the sales teams of Hyundai Motors and Kia, so it is doubly satisfying for me and a great opportunity to work together towards putting India on the world EV map,” said Y S Kim.
Ola’s electric scooter is expected to make 6kW of peak power and 50Nm of peak torque, which could take it from 0 to 45kmph in just 3.9 seconds. It also features three unique swappable banana-shaped batteries (one comes as standard) with an expected range of 80km for each 600W battery. It could very well be the first e-scooter in India to offer 200km of range on a single charge.
Ola’s plans for the electric market look promising and we can’t wait to see the scooter and the mega factory in action. Besides, Yongsung's presence will only strengthen Ola’s grip and reach over the electric market.
