India Bike Week 2016

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) along with women bikers are spreading awareness against the use of leather jackets and other bike accessories made of leather while riding. This campaign will take place at the 2016 edition of India Bike Week (IBW) which is scheduled to begin from tomorrow. The campaign participants will be distributing helmet stickers, bike tail flags, anti-leather buttons etc. to make people understand the value of animals. This is a very useful platform for PETA to spread the word as over 12,000 people are expected to be a part of the event. Also, there will be riders from across the globe sharing their experience along with music band performances and various other contests.

Speaking about the campaign, Neha Singh, co-ordinator of the campaign and youth outreach advisor, PETA India, said, "Bikers are in a position to make a difference for animals and the environment every time they choose to leave leather out of their passion for riding. With so many eco-friendly, stylish options widely available, it's time to put the leather trade to bed." She further added, "Bikers can also take a photo pledge in front of a backdrop proudly reading, 'My Last Pair of Leather Shoes'."

First edition of India Bike Week first took place in 2013 and this will be the fourth edition of the event. During this two-day event, there will be a film festival, music concerts, stunt shows, bike showcases, competitions and much more. This time, the venue of IBW has been changed from Vagator beach to Arpora in Goa.
