The fizz not out yet about Piaggio LX 125 and Piaggio is hopping back into the scenario, with yet another hot two-wheeler. Vespa LX 125 was considered to be over priced, though it deserved all of it, since the scooter was more of a fashion statement rather than a commuting segment ride. However, thinking upon the “high range” as termed by the consumers, Piaggio has devised another plan to perk up its scooter sales. The classic Italian two wheeler manufacturer will soon be brining another scooter, with a displacement of 125 cc, in the two wheeler market soon. Speculations are rife for an October launch, sometime close to Diwali. Though this could still be considered as rumor, but then if the rumor is out, us consumers hold our expectations high from one of our oldest and dearest scoot manufacturer. As per the information that we get as of now, we expect that the on-coming scooter will be placed head to head with Suzuki Access, Suzuki Swish and Honda Activa. Though, still in pipeline for Indian market, this scooter is already dazing the crowd in the international two wheeler market.
Piaggio Fly 125 cc is to be launched soon. With this launch from Piaggio, the company would launch itself in the commuter sector too, which would eventually bring loads of consumers and profit base to Piaggio India. What the company is now following is a top down approach for its two wheelers in India. This new up-coming scooter will sport telescopic forks upfront, and the rear gets hydraulic shock absorbers along with an adjuster pre loaded in it. With drum brakes at both, the front and rear, the company offers an option for disc brakes at the front. This two wheeler too will receive the same heart as Vespa LX 125, and thus will perform equally smart in this vehicle too. This 125 cc heart will pump out a peak power of 10 BHP, with maximum torque resting at 10 Nm. With these specifications, we expect the scooter to give as smart mileage as Vespa LX 125. Although, the engine is the same as was in Vespa LX 125, it would not be a 3-valved one.
Other than refreshing the scooter segment of India, Piaggio plans to bang the motorcycle segment also. The evergreen Italian major is expected to bring Aprilia RS 125 soon to India; “soon” could me the year 2013. And straight away head for a competition with KTM Duke 200. Also, rumors are afloat for the company’s plans for launching a range of bikes that would be totally own; this range of bikes will be placed in the commuter segment of Indian motorcycles. This launch is still at a distance, let us say, expected around end of 2013 or the early 2014. For all these plans to see daylight, Piaggio has already invested in a huge plant at Baramati, which has a capacity of 1.5 lac units per year; however, the company will soon be doubling up this capacity too, and might invest in a few more plants. Doesn’t seem it will stay behind in any case!
