Italian auto major Piaggio is all set to expand its business in India. After entering in the Indian scooter market with their iconic Piaggio Vespa LX125 last year, the auto major is planning to introduce two new scooters in India. These scooters will be the Vespa S150 and Typhoon 150, and will be launched as premium 150cc scooters. Piaggio is eying bigger market share in the country and they already announced their plans to target 1 lakh unit of Piaggio Vespa LX125 in year 2013. For this they have slashed the prices of the scooter and also offering extended warranty on it. Also in an effort to make product more effective they are going to add disc brakes and sportier features on it.
The Typhoon 150 comes with modern looks unlike the Vespa series scooters, it comes with sporty features like a front disc brake and fuel injection for better performance. The Typhoon 150 will cater to the moto-scoot segment and will be a performance-oriented offering for those who likes scooter but wish for motorcycle like power and performance. Where is Vespa S150 is the elder sibling of the Vespa LX125 and will be the most powerful and fastest scooter of the country. The Vespa S150 is expected to be powered by a 12 PS, 150cc single cylinder four-stroke engine, which will help it to achieve a top speed of 100 kmph. The scooter will sport a telescopic front shock absorbers, front disk-brake, a semi digital speedo console and fuel injection.
The second offering, the Typhoon 150 also features a SOHC 150cc engine, which churns out the maximum power output of 11.8 PS with 11.4Nm of peak torque. However, nothing has been disclosed yet on their Indian specs, launch date and pricing, we are expecting both these scooter in the premium scooter price bracket. These scooter will compete with yet to come Honda PCX150 and others.
