Polarity Smart Bikes, a Pune-based EV startup, has announced that it will unveil not one but six electric pedal-assisted bicycles by the end of this month. The startup has teased its lineup as well, and this includes the S1K, S2K, S3K under the Sport lineup and E1K, E2K and E3K under the Executive range. We've come to know that the E1K and S1K will have square-ish headlamps while the rest of the range get a circular unit. That said, the lighting system is all-LED. The seat is adjustable and we reckon the handlebar could be as well.
Also, the top-end S3K and E3K features a different instrument cluster compared to the others. Underpinnings are similar for all the six models - adjustable inverted fork and a gas-charged monoshock. Even the tyres seem to be the same on all the bikes. Brakes include mechanical discs at both front and rear. One major difference between the two ranges is the presence of a carrier with full-length rear fender in the bikes under the Executive range, which should enhance the practicality of the e-bike. The Sport variants get a minimalistic tyre hugger, which looks cool but may not be all that practical.
Polarity says all the bikes will be powered by electric hub motors ranging from 1-3kW. The bikes get a lithium-ion battery which is claimed to offer a minimum range of 80km. Moreover, since these e-bikes are pedal assisted, one can simply pedal it out when the battery runs out. This should reduce range anxiety and dependence on charging infrastructure to an extent. Interestingly, the top-end models - S3K and E3K - can reach a claimed top speed of 100kmph! Polarity also offers a custom stand which can be used to convert the bicycle as an exercise machine as well! How cool is that?
Once the lineup is unveiled, pre-bookings will commence on its official website for a token amount of Rs 1,001. However, the brand plans to launch the electric bikes only by the end of this year. They will be available across India and the startup also plans to sell the electric bikes via popular e-retail websites.
The high-end models (S3K & E3K) are estimated to be priced at around Rs 1.2 lakh whereas lower end e-bikes will cost around Rs 35,000-Rs 45,000 (ex-showroom). We spotted one of Polarity’s e-bikes being tested recently, and here’s all you need to know.
