To debut at EICMA 2024
Royal Enfield has teased its first electric motorcycle on its social media. It is set to debut in the EICMA motor show held in Italy on November 4 2024. The iconic British motorcycle brand known for making retro-styled motorcycles, will step into the electric bike segment with this motorcycle.
The electric motorcycle, codenamed as the Electrik01, is being co-developed with a Spanish electric two-wheeler company, Stark Future SL. The bike will be based on their new “L” platform and will also serve as a platform for future motorcycles. Although the name of the motorcycles remains undisclosed, the teaser posted on the brand’s social media hints at the design of the motorcycle. The silhouette of the motorcycle remains consistent with the patent which they filed earlier. The bike will get a neo-retro design and carries out the classic design which Royal Enfield is known for.
The patent image includes a girder fork, which is different from conventional fork, as it uses shocks that are positioned between girder arms and under triple clamp, using linkages. While it does not have any advantage over the conventional fork, it adds to the visual appeal. If the girder fork does make it to production, it will be the first time since world-war 2 that any Royal Enfield motorcycle will get from the factory.
The rear-end of the motorcycle looks like a hard-tail and retains the retro charms of the electric motorcycle. This is done by neatly hiding the monoshock. The rider’s seat is mounted directly on the main frame as there is no subframe as such. In terms of design, the bike gets round headlamps similar to that on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, which is mounted directly on the handle bar. It gets round mirrors and two tear-drop shaped panels which mimic the fuel tank. The main frame encompasses the battery whose details have not yet been revealed. The battery also gets cooling fins to help it disperse heat in a better and efficient way. The instrument console looks similar to the one which we have seen on the recently launched Guerrilla 450 and the Himalayan 450.
The rear wheel looks relatively thinner compared to the ICE models and will get alloy wheels like shown in the patent. Though the specs of the electric motor remain undisclosed, it will get a belt drive to propel the bike.
The electric Royal Enfield Motorcycle will be unveiled at EICMA 2024 and will launch in India sometime early next year. We expect it to be priced around the Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go against the likes of Ultraviolette F77 and the Raptee.HV T 30.
