Royal Enfield launched the Guerrilla 450 recently, and its prices start at Rs 2,39,000 and go up to Rs 2,54,000. At this price, the base Guerrilla 450 costs just Rs 500 less than the Harley-Davidson X440, which starts at Rs 2,39,500 and goes up to Rs 2,79,500 (all prices ex-showroom). Both bikes compete in the neo-retro roadster segment and here’s how they compare:

Design

Both bikes come with a neo-retro design. The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is available in 5 funky colours: Smoke Silver, Playa Black, Gold Dip, Brava Blue and Yellow Ribbon. On the other hand, the Harley-Davidson X440 also gets 5 colours: Black, Denim - Mustard Denim, Vivid - Dark Silver, Vivid - Thick Red and Matte Black.

The Guerrilla 450’s front design is similar to the Royal Enfield Hunter 350. It gets a round LED headlight and sleek LED indicators, a single-piece handlebar, round mirrors and a sculpted fuel tank. The tail section is slim and looks similar to the Himalayan 450. It has a sleek LED tail light, indicators, an extended number plate mount and a chrome-finished upswept exhaust.

On the other hand, the Harley X440 features a rounded “turtle” fuel tank, which is similar to bigger Harley bikes. It also gets a circular LED headlight, round indicators, a single piece handlebar and round mirrors. The X440 gets a bulkier tail section. Its horizontally placed oval tail light is mounted on the rear fender and the slight upswept exhaust looks plain and simple.

Engine

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is powered by a 452cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces a peak output of 40.02PS at 8000rpm and 40Nm at 5500rpm. Whereas, the Harley X440 is equipped with a 440cc air-/oil-cooled 2-valve single-cylinder engine that delivers 27PS at 6000rpm and 38Nm at 4000rpm. Both these bikes have a 6-speed transmission and a slip-and-assist clutch.

Features

The Guerrilla’s base variant gets a semi-digital instrument console, which is borrowed from the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. It gets a tripper navigation pod as an optional accessory. Whereas the mid and top variants feature a round 4-inch colour TFT display from the Himalayan 450, with full Google Maps navigation. It gets ride-by-wire throttle and has 2 riding modes: Eco and Power.

The Harley Davidson X440 has a simple 3.5-inch colour TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity. It includes call and SMS alerts, music control, and turn-by-turn navigation. Both the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and Harley X440 are equipped with all-LED lighting and USB charging ports.

Underpinnings

The RE Guerrilla 450 sits on a steel tubular frame. It gets a 43mm telescopic front fork and a link-type monoshock at the rear. It is equipped with a 310mm front disc and a 270mm rear disc brakes, with dual-channel ABS as standard. The 450cc roadster rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, fitted with 120-section front and 160-section rear Ceat Gripp XL tubeless tyres. It has a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres, 780mm seat height, 169mm ground clearance and has a kerb weight of 185kg.

Built on a steel trellis frame, the Harley X440 comes equipped with a 43mm KYB inverted fork and 7-step preload-adjustable dual shock absorbers. Braking is handled by 320mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes, with dual-channel ABS as standard. The Harley X440 is equipped with an 18-inch wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear with alloy wheels (except the base variant, which gets spoke wheels), fitted with 100-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres. The bike gets a 13.5-litre fuel tank, 805mm seat height, 170mm ground clearance and a kerb weight of 194.5kg.

Verdict

Both the RE Guerrilla 450 and Harley X440 have enough power to handle your city commutes and highway runs and come with a host of features. Both brands offer additional accessories for the bikes as well. If you want a stylish bike with funky colours, the Guerrilla sounds like a great option. It comes with a liquid-cooled engine that provides sporty performance.

Whereas, the X440 is the most affordable Harley bike in the lineup. If you are looking for a relaxed roadster, it can be a great choice.
