Royal Enfield To Add 11 New Models To Its Portfolio

The Meteor 350 is just the beginning. Brace for a slew of new launches from Royal Enfield

• The Meteor 350 is the first bike based on the ‘J’ platform.

Royal Enfield’s Meteor 350 based on the new ‘J’ platform is creating waves in the two-wheeler industry. But this is just the start as Royal Enfield plans to launch a plethora of new bikes. Here’s our list of the expected upcoming motorcycles from the iconic Indian brand.  

2020 Classic 350:

We have already seen a number of spy shots of the upcoming Classic 350 based on the J-platform. We believe this could be the next bike to be launched in India now that the Meteor 350 is here. The 2021 model has been styled with modern elements but retains the essence of the current-gen Classic. It gets a new 350cc motor, a split double-cradle frame and better features.

New Bullet 350:

There’s no way Royal Enfield would just let go of the Bullet 350 and its classic retro design. It’s bound to receive an overhaul along with a new engine that would make it future proof. The bike is likely to retain its position as RE’s entry-level model. 

Roadster 350:

The upcoming Roadster has already been spotted testing in India. It features lower-set handlebars, rearset footpegs, upswept exhaust and a flatter single-piece seat. Expect the bike to come with modern elements like an LED headlamp and tail lamp and even the Tripper navigation system as standard.  

650cc Cruiser:

It’s only logical to spawn more models from Royal Enfields most potent engine, the 650cc twin. We’ve already seen the Cruiser 650 in its testing phase which means it isn’t far away from its official launch. The bike packs the same 650cc parallel twin-engine, although the design around it is more of a low-slung cruiser. It’s expected to rival the Kawasaki Vulcan 650. 

650cc Scrambler:

The 650cc platform could also branch out into a scrambler. It could be styled to look like a more rugged version of the Interceptor 650 with stripped-down bodywork, dual-purpose tyres and a side-mounted exhaust. 

Hardcore Himalayan variant (Sherpa):

The bike maker had recently trademarked the names Hunter and Sherpa which hints at two new motorcycles. We believe the latter could be a more hardcore version of the Himalayan with more power, better underpinnings and modern features like LED lighting and a digital screen with Bluetooth and navigation. This would put it in a better position to take on rivals like the KTM 390 Adventure and BMW G310 GS. 

250cc Himalayan:

The Himalayan over the years has become a lot more expensive thanks to the introduction of strict BS6 and safety norms. To make the Himalayan range more accessible to the masses, RE could cash in on the 250cc segment which has seen a sudden surge in demand. The brand could carry the same styling and play around with the hardware to try and make the bike lighter and friendlier.

250cc Royal Enfields (Roadster and Cruiser):

Though Royal Enfield said it has no plans of launching a 250cc motorcycle, we think there’s still scope for a 250cc model considering the current demand in the segment. The model could be the cheapest way to hop onto the classic bandwagon. There could be two iterations of the 250cc platform: the first one could be a 250cc roadster on the lines of the Classic 350 and the second offering might a be cruiser taking cues from the new Meteor 350. 

Electric Royal Enfield:

Royal Enfield’s 2.0 strategy includes stepping into the electric two-wheeler space in India. It is currently working on a few electric motorcycles and already has a couple of prototypes in the pipeline. Royal Enfield has already proved it can offer premium bikes with multiple cylinders to take on brands like Harley-Davidson and Triumph? Could it deal a second effective blow with its electric bikes? We’ll just leave it at that for now. 

KX Bobber:

The KX concept bobber from RE was the centre of attention at EICMA 2018. The sweet-looking concept was powered by an air- and oil-cooled 838cc V-twin motor which could give rise to a new breed of Royal Enfield motorcycles. The KX concept is a modern take on the original RE KX from 1938. The design comprises an LED headlamp which has fork extensions that cover a front girder-type suspension. It gets a slender tank with a single, tan floating seat. The bike also features twin-stacked exhaust cans that sit to the right and adds visual weight at the rear, balancing its overall proportions. Expect the concept KX to become a reality soon.
