It’s very rare to find a mobile phone manufacturer who cares about the safety of a biker. In fact there are only few mobile phone apps that are tailor made for a biker. Today Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy J3 featuring an S bike mode which is an industry-first dedicated feature for motorcycle riders.
So what is it exactly? Well the S bike mode is built into the Galaxy J3. The J3 has in-built NFC chip and the phone ships with a NFC tag. This tag can be stuck on to your helmet or any part of your bike. Then all you need to do is gently tap the device on this tag to activate/deactivate the S bike mode. You also have the option to use the quick panel to activate/deactivate this feature. Besides this, it also has an Urgent Call Alert System where a caller will hear a pre- recorded message that the user is riding, but if the call is urgent, the caller may choose to press 1, which allows urgent calls to go through.
The Samsung J3 also comes with a Motion lock feature. So if you decide to take the urgent incoming call, you will need to bring your bike to a halt in order to answer the call. This is a good safety feature which encourages responsible riding.
The S bike mode also gets an intuitive user interface where you can see a log of call notifications while the mode was enabled. It also has a Smart Reply feature where selected contacts will receive an auto-SMS with an estimate of when you are likely to be available for a call based on the trip destination entered by you.
“Samsung is constantly in the pursuit of meaningful innovations that make people’s lives better. S bike mode is a result of that vision. While studying the consumers’ phone usage behaviour, we realised that incoming calls are a major distraction to bikers. We are very happy that we have come up with something that will benefit millions of two-wheeler users and promote responsible riding,” said Mr Asim Warsi. Senior Vice President, Samsung India Electronics.
