Scooter Segment Looks concentrated after the 2014 Auto Expo

It's high time people, all scooter manufacturers went brutal against each other. The top brands like Yamaha, Hero, Honda, TVS and Piaggio Vespa are all set to give a stiff competition to the respective rivals with their innovative and impeccable scooterettes. The competition is going to be very intense as all the segments are getting filled with the new introductions like Hero Dash, DARE and ZIR; Honda Activa 125 and PCX 125; TVS Scooty Zest, Wego and Jupiter; Yamaha Alpha; Vespa 946, Vespa 125 S, Piaggio Liberty.
Hero Motocorp
Hero Motocorp unveiled three scooters at the 2014 Auto Expo - Dash, DARE and ZIR, which were allocated to 110cc, 125cc and 150cc segments respectively. Hero Dash was revealed few days before the show and the other two scoots were introduced during the event only. Hero Dash features the Key with E-Code, Fuel Lid opening by Key and Dual Moulding Key, which makes it a stand apart.
Hero Dare is a powerful 125cc scooter that generates the maximum power of 9.11bhp and peak torque of 9.5Nm. Dare features side stand indicator, boot light, pass switch and mobile phone charging socket.
Moreover, the Hero ZIR is the most powerful scooter by the company, which is powered with a new 157.1cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, OHC engine. The engine creates an ultimate power of 14bhp at 8500rpm and a torque of 12.7Nm at 7000rpm. Day running lights, integrated pillion handle, LED winkers, step seat, flower type disc brakes and smartphone integration are few of its intelligent features.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India
Honda launched a new 125cc variant of people's favorite scooter, Honda Activa. Carrying forward the legendary style statement and convenience of the Activa, the new avatar is simply mesmerizing with its futuristic approach and a fuel efficient engine. Features like Combi-brake system and optional disc brake will be enhancing the safety of the riders.
Besides, Honda also has revealed its PXC 125 scooter, which is an astonishing beauty with aggressive appearance and eye-pleasing design. The scooter houses a 124.9cc, 4-stroke, 2-valve, SOHC, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine mated with the V-Matic transmission.
TVS Motors
The pavilion of TVS consisted of a wide range of products including a new model, Scooty Zest, a premium scooter; Jupiter, and Wego, powered with Jupiter's mill.
TVS Szooty Zest is a next generation model of the company's prime scooter, Scooty. The elegance, smartness, comfort and captivating aura of the old Scooty is kept alive with this new model. It is a 110cc scooter, designed for women.
TVS Wego has been integrated with a new 110cc engine that is powering the all new Jupiter as well. It is a 109.7cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, OHC engine, coupled with CVT-i. Built with all metal body, it features external fuel fill, body balance technology and digital speedometer.
TVS Jupiter is a luxurious scooter, which avails features like the largest 90/90-12 tubeless tyres, largest leg space, best-in-class mileage of 62kmpl, parking brake, low fuel indicator, external fuel fill and large under seat storage.
Yamaha
Yamaha has introduced a new and affordable 110cc scooter called Alpha, in the same event. Targeting masculine as well as feminine buyers, this scooter has ravishing looks. The manufacturer has incorporated a 113cc, air-cooled engine to empower the scooter. The engine generates a supreme power of 7bhp at 7500rpm with a peak torque of 8.1Nm at 5000rpm. The company claims that it will be returning 62kmpl of mileage. The colors in which it is made available are Black, White, Purple, Grey and Red.
Piaggio Vespa
The well known fact is that Piaggio has set the quality as well as price bar very high with the launch of its premium scooters in the country. The bar has even gone to the next level as the company has brought one of its best products from its international line-up.
Vespa 946 comes incorporated with the Anti-lock Brake system and ASR traction control, which make it an extraordinary one in its segment. The best part of the scooter is its designing, the never seen before seat styling, LED circular taillight and fully digital instrumentation.
On the other hand, Piaggio Liberty is the most sold scooter of the company, which will soon be available in India as well. The scooter is designed to accommodate extreme level of comfort and its likable presence, compliments the rider's personality.
