SIAM Expresses Grief on Demise of Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal

Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Founder and Chairman of Hero Group, has passed away at the age of 92. The biggest two-wheeler manufacturer group of India was officially started by Dr. Munjal in 1956. He also held various positions in different automotive groups including his post of Past President and Treasurer at AIAM/SIAM. The death of this great stalwart has sent shockwaves to almost every corner of automobile industry invoking reactions from some of the leading personalities.

Mr. Vinod Dasari, President, SIAM expressed grief at the demise saying that his passing away comes as a massive loss to the entire automotive fraternity. Dr. Brijmohan Lall was one of the flag bearers of the Indian automotive industry and is hugely responsible for the position and reputation the Indian two-wheeler industry enjoys globally today. Dr. Brijmohan Lall was a father figure to the automotive industry in India and an extraordinary leader, who showed the entire industry how to build a winning company.

Mr. Dasari added that while Dr. Lall has probably been the single biggest reason behind Hero MotoCorp being the world’s largest two-wheeler company for the 14th year in a row now, his contribution to the industry is much more than what numbers would suggest. SIAM would also remember and cherish his contribution to the development of consensus building amongst the companies and creating the unified automotive industry in India. He was a visionary and has played an unprecedented role in cementing India’s place on the global automotive scenario.

Earlier this year, Dr. Brijmohan Lall was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Honour at the Annual General meeting of SIAM. He was also honoured with the prestigious 'Padma Bhushan' in 2005 for his contribution in the field of trade and industry.
