After all these years, the Ather 450X will finally see a worthy competitor
The premium electric two-wheeler segment has been dominated by Ather Energy so far, but tomorrow could be the day this changes. Simple Energy, a startup based out of Bengaluru, is slated to launch its flagship e-scooter, the Simple One, tomorrow.
Simple Energy will also commence online pre-bookings tomorrow for a token amount of Rs 1947. Though the pre-bookings are open pan India, the company will be launching in 13 cities in its first phase. The pricing hasn’t been announced yet, however, Simple Energy promises that the e-scooter will be priced between Rs 1.10 lakh to Rs 1.20 lakh.
One of the key highlights of the Simple One electric scooter is its ARAI-certified range of 240km. While the claimed range is in ECO mode, it is almost twice the range of the Ather 450X. That said, the Simple One packs a 4.8kWh (Ather boasts of a 6kWh motor) which is claimed to sprint from 0 to 50kmph in 3.6 seconds. To know how the Ather fares, read our road test review.
Simple Energy hasn’t compromised on features, either. The Simple One will be equipped with a touchscreen console, onboard navigation, bluetooth and even removable battery pack. It even boasts a 30-litre boot space, the largest in the segment.
The startup will also launch its own public fast-charging network, called the Simple Loop. Simple Energy will be setting up 300 stations across 13 states in India by partnering with shopping malls, restaurants, and other establishments. The charger will be compatible with electric scooters of other brands as well.
The Simple Energy One will not just rival the Ather 450X, but will also take on the likes of the TVS iQube Electric and Bajaj Chetak Electric. Also launching tomorrow is the highly anticipated Ola Electric Scooter, so stay tuned.
