Super Splendor to go iSmart way for Auto Expo

Hero MotoCorp is expected to bring the 2016 version of its Super Splendor iSmart at the 2016 Auto Expo, next month. The biennial event provides a platform for all the automobile manufacturers to showcase their latest offerings and technologies. The look of the new Super Splendor iSmart is slated for a refresh over its current version and is expected to borrow design cues from its younger sibling, the Splendor iSmart. The 2016 model will get the same single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that powers the current model. The 124.7cc mill generates a maximum power of 9bhp at 7,000rpm with a torque of 10.35Nm at 4,000rpm. The bike is expected to be priced around Rs. 60,000.

The new instrument cluster of the motorcycle was spied last month, which led to the revelation that i3S technology used in Splendor iSmart will feature on the 2016 Super Splendor as well. The i3S is an Idle Start and Stop technology, which is used to reduce the loss of fuel during idling. It is a switchable system, so you can turn it on or off as per your riding needs. The system automatically turns off the motorcycle engine when found to be idling for a predefined time. To turn the engine back on, the rider simply has to press the clutch lever and ride off. It helps save fuel on halts of more than a minute at traffic signals resulting in better fuel economy, while also reducing the activity required to manually switch off and turn on the engine at every stop.

Apart from Hero, many other two-wheeler manufacturers will also be showcasing their products at the Expo. Triumph is likely to reveal its Bonneville range along with the Cafe Racers, Thruxton and Thruxton R. Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Benelli Tornado 302 are two of the fully-faired motorcycles also expected to arrive at the show. Tornado 302 will be DSK-Benelli’s first fully-faired offering in the, adding to its existing TNT lineup of nakeds here.
