From a maxi-style scooter to a sporty one, Suzuki’s 124cc engine versatility is sure to floor you

Suzuki’s entrant in the 125cc sporty scooter segment, to take on the likes of the TVS NTorq 125 and the Aprilia SR 125, is the Avenis 125. However, though the Japanese scooter is new to the market, its engine isn’t. Let’s deep dive into Suzuki’s 125cc that doesn’t power one but has been the heart of four scooters.

Suzuki Access 125
Suzuki was one of the first major players to introduce a 125cc scooter in India during the early 2000s. The Access 125 made its debut in 2006 and became an instant hit, thanks to its high quality, comfort and a powerful engine. Over the years, the Access has received a bunch of updates, including fuel-injection. However, the 124cc engine was a sporty one to start with, and remains one even today.

Suzuki Swish 125
The lesser known sibling of the Access 125 had a rather short life, spanning a little over five years. This scooter was introduced as a premium offering over the Access. From its exhaust cover to grab rails and the dual tone paint schemes, it exuded premiumness. But the Suzuki Swish 125 shared its internals, including the engine producing 8.7PS and 9.8Nm, with the Access.

Suzuki Burgman Street
After pulling the plug on the Swish, Suzuki introduced the Burgman Street. The 124cc engine’s refinement and ability to sustain speed made it a good choice for a maxi-style scooter. Complementing this engine is a bunch of convenience features, including Bluetooth connectivity.

Suzuki Avenis
Catering to a mature audience, and one intended for comfort, Suzuki’s next step was to introduce its platform in a sporty guise with the Avenis. The lightweight construction and the taut wheelbase go perfectly with the 124cc fuel-injected motor. Here’s how the Avenis’ performance fares in the real world.
