The upcoming two-wheeler will be Suzuki’s first electric scooter offering for the Indian market

Last year, Suzuki began testing the Burgman Electric on the streets of Delhi and now, the e-scooter has been spotted testing yet again. The e-scooter looks quite close to production form, but it hasn't been launched in India yet. Suzuki India’s first electric scooter is expected to go on sale by late-2021.

The latest spy shots do not reveal anything other than what we already know so far about the Suzuki Burgman Electric. The styling of the Suzuki Burgman Street hasn’t been tweaked at all, with the only visible difference being the addition of the chunky tyre hugger and the short rear fender.

Even the 12/10-inch wheel setup seems to be the same. However, given that the rear will now carry more weight than the ICE variant, we feel the suspension equipment could be different. While the front disc brake is likely to be carried over from the ICE model, the rear drum brake too may see some changes.

Suzuki hasn’t revealed any details about the powertrain but we reckon the e-scooter will run a setup similar to its rivals. So expect a 4kW to 4.5kW BLDC motor paired with a lithium-ion battery pack offering a range of up to 90km.

Like most electric scooters in our market, the Suzuki Burgman Electric too is likely to have a long list of smart features. The manufacturer already offers smartphone connectivity on the Burgman Street so we can expect the same on the electric version too. Additionally, security features such as geo-fencing and remote diagnostics could also make it to the final product.

The Burgman Street scores high on space. It will be interesting to see how Suzuki manages to retain that, given that the battery and related components are likely to occupy more space.

The Suzuki Burgman Electric will rival the likes of the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, and the upcoming Ola Electric scooter. By the time the Burgman debuts here, the Simple Energy Mark 2 would likely be on sale too. So, if you are on the lookout for a performance-oriented e-scooter, you will soon have more choices other than the Ather 450X.
