The naked variant of the Gixxer SF 250 will take on the Yamaha FZ 25
- Gixxer 250 could be priced around Rs 1.55 lakh.
- 2019 Gixxer likely to be priced at a premium over the current model.
- Both bikes will share their underpinnings with their fully faired variants.
Suzuki is planning to launch the naked variants of the Gixxer SF 250 and 2019 Gixxer SF in India soon. The upcoming 250cc naked model could be called the Gixxer 250, whereas the 155cc Gixxer is likely to retain its name. We expect Suzuki to launch both motorcycles around September this year.
Details about the upcoming Gixxer 250 and the 2019 Gixxer are scarce, but one thing is for certain that they will share their underpinnings with their fully faired cousin. The Gixxer 250 will employ the same 249cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected unit as seen on the Gixxer SF 250. The engine comes with a unique oil cooling system and puts out 26.5PS of power and 22.6Nm of torque.
The 2019 Gixxer will be powered by an updated version of the 155cc air-cooled engine. It now churns out 14.1PS of power and 14Nm of torque, which is 0.7PS less than the previous model. This could be due to the updates that have made the engine BS6-ready. Both motorcycles will get an all-new design from the Japanese bike maker, just like it did with the Gixxer SF 250 and 2019 Gixxer SF.
We expect the 2019 Gixxer to command a premium of Rs 5,000 over the current model, which retails at 88,941 (ex-showroom Delhi). The 2019 Gixxer will go up against the Honda CB Hornet 160R, Yamaha FZ-S FI Version 3.0, Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. The Gixxer 250, on the other hand, is likely to be priced around Rs 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom) and will take on the Yamaha FZ 25.
