How different is the Taiwanese maxi-scooter from the Italian maxi-styled scooter?
SYM recently launched the Jet X 150 in Malaysia as its premium offering in the 150cc scooter category. But how good of a fight can it put up against the Indian-spec Aprilia SXR 160? Well, let’s compare the two scooters in a series of images and find out.
On the design front, the SYM Jet X 150 gets a full-blown maxi-scooter bodywork. It seems to be well proportioned and has a notably aggressive fascia. The Aprilia SXR 160’s body work is also muscular but it gets a flat footboard, thereby falling short to be called a proper maxi-scooter.
Both the Jet X 150 and the SXR 160 get LED headlights with DRLs topped by smoked visors. However, the Taiwanese offering uses a two-piece headlamp whereas the Italian gets a three-piece unit.
SYM has powered its maxi-scooter by a liquid-cooled 149.6cc single-cylinder motor that pumps out a 12PS and 12Nm. On the other hand, despite having a larger 160cc motor, the Aprilia SXR 160 makes only 11PS of power and 11Nm of torque.

Featurewise, the Jet X 150 gets a digital instrument cluster and a USB charger. The SXR 160 gets a USB port and a larger digital display than the SYM scooter.
Suspension duties on the SYM Jet X 150 are done by a telescopic fork and a pair of adjustable rear shocks. The Aprilia SXR 160 is also sprung on a telescopic fork up front but gets a monoshock at the rear.
Braking for the Jet X 150 is handled by a 260mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc paired with CBS. The Aprilia SXR 160 also gets disc brakes at both ends but with single-channel ABS.
The Taiwanese maxi-scooter rolls on 14-inch wheels whereas the Italian maxi-style scooter gets 12-inch wheels.
At 7.5 litres, the SYM Jet X 150’s fuel tank is 500ml larger than the Aprilia SXR 160’s 7-litre fuel tank.
Lastly, the SYM scooter retails at RM 8,888 (approximately Rs 1.56 lakh) for the standard model and RM 9,188 (approximately Rs 1.61 lakh) for the special edition, in Malaysia. And the Aprilia SXR 160 costs Rs 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
