Called the Suzuki e-Burgman, it has a miniscule 44km range while being heavier than the Yamaha R15 V4!
The Suzuki e-Burgman, the Japanese brand’s first electric scooter based on the Burgman Street, has been revealed in Japan. The e-scooter’s test mule was spotted earlier in 2021 in India.
From April to June 2023, a pilot-run programme for the e-Burgman will be conducted in Tokyo, Japan, to evaluate the e-scooter before it is put into production. Honda Mobile Power Pack e:swappable batteries will be used in this e-scooter, in contrast to earlier patent drawings that show fixed battery packs.
This battery pack is the same one as the one used in Gachacho, which is a battery-sharing platform by the four major Japanese automakers Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. The next electric two-wheelers from Yamaha and Kawasaki, hence, will also use these swappable battery packs.
The details of the Suzuki e-Burgman have also been disclosed. Powering it is a 4kW motor (peak power) with 18Nm of peak torque on tap. 44km of range at a cruising speed of 60kph isn’t a lot, but swappable batteries should reduce the down time considerably. That said, the scooter tips the scales at a hefty 147kg! A seat height of 780mm is the same as the petrol-powered Burgman Street.
Talking about e-scooters, Honda recently revealed its new platform, on which its new EVs will be based. With them likely to come around 2024, the electric Burgman will most probably debut in 2024 as well. Since the Burgman uses Honda’s swappable battery pack, the possibility of Honda and Suzuki sharing the swappable battery infrastructure cannot be ruled out.
Suzuki could launch the electric scooter at an expected price of around Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go up against the Bajaj Chetak electric, Ather 450 Plus, TVS iQube Electric and upcoming Honda Activa Electric in its segment.
