If you’re in the market for an EV these days, you’ll quickly discover that you’re more than spoilt for choice. They seem to pop up with more frequency than potholes on Indian roads after a quick rainfall. So we won’t be surprised if you haven't heard of Velocifero mid all that din. Heck, neither had we. It’s a relatively new electric two-wheeler manufacturer that usually deals with e-scooters. It recently took the wraps off three new EVs which follow a rather strange language. While they look intriguing, the oversized, almost spherical wheels feel a bit overdone. Nonetheless, they’re all lookers across the board. The bike that stood out the most in our eyes is the Beach Mad, which looks like a juvenile Batpod. Let’s just call it a Batcycle, shall we?
The man behind the design is Alessandro Tartarini, an industrial designer whose family was responsible for introducing Italjet, the Italian scooter maker that gave us the gorgeous Dragster. While the Italians are more about sensual designs, Velocifero is more about dramatizing their ideas. Take the Beach Mad for instance. It gets a slender body sitting on bulbous wheels and has some abnormally high ground clearance. And while it’s too flashy for our taste, it does grab attention. That's also partly due to those pretty models, but you get my point.

Unfortunately, Velocifero haven't given out any specifications for the bike, so we don't have any numbers to go by. But Japanese publication MotorFan recently spent some time with the bike, and that gives us an idea of how the Beach Mad performs. From the looks of it, it's powered by a 2kW hub motor that delivers a top speed of 60kmph. Its 60V/40Ah Lithium battery is expected to deliver around 60-70km and takes about 8 to 10 hours to recharge via a standard household socket. Oh, and it weighs in at 90kg kerb, which is pretty light considering its exaggerated proportions.

On the features front, you have a twin-projector headlamp up front running LED DRLs, along with LED turn indicators and an LED tail light. A telescopic fork and a linked monoshock handle suspension duties, with disc brakes putting the anchor down. While a digital instrument console is pretty much expected from EVs nowadays, the adjustable brake and clutch levers did come as a pleasant surprise. You even have extra storage space in the artificial tank which can be used to store your knick-knacks.
Electric vehicles have this odd perception of being boring, so it’s exciting to see manufacturers like Velocifero think out of the box to quash this notion.
