It is called the Yamaha Ego Avantiz and it comes with automated brightness adjustable LED headlight
Yamaha India has moved on from catering to the smaller 110cc segment to in the 125cc class or higher. While we are still waiting for the likes of the Nmax 155 to arrive, the Fascino 125 and the Ray ZR 125 are decently sprightly scooters. The Japanese manufacturer, however, has some interesting models overseas that use the same 125cc engine from the aforementioned scooters. One such model is the Ego Avantiz, which was recently launched in its 2021 guise in Malaysia.
The highlight of the Yamaha Ego Avantiz is its new headlight. Not only has Yamaha equipped the scooter with an updated LED headlight design, but it also gets automated brightness adjustability to suit different riding conditions. Even the tail light receives a new design and the rear indicators have been moved to the fender. It also gets new graphics and paint jobs.
With all the aggressive lines, the Yamaha Ego Avantiz’s styling is quite similar to the Ray ZR 125, appealing to the younger buyers. The sleek panels of the Ego translate to less storage space, 14 litres only, 7 litres less than the Ray ZR.
Both scooters share the same single-cylinder 125cc fuel-injected engine. However, while the Avantiz develops 9.5PS at 8,000rpm and 9.6Nm at 5,500rpm, its Indian sibling makes 8.2PS at 6,500rpm and 9.7Nm at 5000rpm. That isn’t all, the Ego Avantiz is also 3kg lighter than the Ray ZR 125.

The Yamaha Ego Avantiz gets a disc brake at the front and a drum at the rear to handle the braking duties. Unlike the 12/10-inch wheel setup of the Ray ZR, the Ego Avantiz gets 14-inch wheels at both ends. The Avantiz gets a suspension setup similar to the Ray ZR, with a telescopic front fork and a single rear shock. Surprisingly, in spite of the bigger wheels and taller appearance, the seat height of the Avantiz is fairly low at 773mm, compared to the Ray ZR’s 785mm.
The 2021 Yamaha Ego Avantiz has been priced at MYR 4873, or Rs 88,392 which is more expensive than the Ray ZR 125 which retails at Rs 76,330 (ex-showroom Delhi). Though Yamaha is unlikely to bring the Ego Avantiz to India, we would certainly want the extra power on the Ray ZR 125, which is already amongst the quickest 125cc sporty scooters we have tested.
