For 2022 the Tiwanese bikemaker updates its KRV 180i DDS maxi-scooter with loads of new features
Last year, Taiwanese bikemaker Kymco unveiled the KRV 180i, a pocket-friendly maxi-scooter loaded with features and packing enough performance to outrun even the Yamaha Aerox 155. For 2022, the scooter gets a slight bump in power and a few new features that help it become an even stronger value proposition.
In terms of design and aesthetics, not much has changed. It borrows its muscular and sporty looks from its elder sibling, the AK 550. The split LED headlights and DRLs accentuate its sports bike-like look. However, there’s no underbone chassis unlike what we see on something like the Aerox 155. The KRV uses a lightweight, twin-spar frame mated to a motorcycle-like swingarm. The 175.1cc centrally mounted engine makes 17.03PS and 15.68Nm, with the power delivered via an exposed belt drive; now that’s a killer image, isn’t it?
The Kymco KRV 180i was already a feature-packed scooter with an LCD instrument cluster, USB charging and a keyless start system. For 2022, it gets a TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and will be available in three new colours - black, blue and grey.

We feel the Kymco KRV 180i would be a great contender in the maxi-scooter segment here in India. However, priced at an equivalent of Rs 6.4 lakh (roughly, before taxes) this is an extremely expensive proposition for just a 175cc scooter. So if sporty scooters are your thing, have a look at the Yamaha Aerox 155 which is a lot more affordable and offers nearly as much performance as the Kymco. You can also give the Aprilia SXR 160, or even the Aprilia SR 160 a look if you fancy scootering around town zestily.
