Top 5 Electric Two-wheeler Manufacturers In July 2022

India is home to the largest two-wheeler market in the world and a majority of these sales come from humble commuters like the Hero Splendor and Honda Activa. However, electric two-wheelers are now ever so popular and here are the top five best-selling electric two-wheeler manufacturers in the country based on July 2022 figures:

While the overall two-wheeler market reported a drop of 10% in year-on-year (YoY) sales, the gains reported by the top five EV manufacturers are more than double compared to last year. This clearly signifies the wildfire popularity the electric segment is currently experiencing, while the scope of this number growing even further is immense.

This electric revolution is spearheaded at the front by Hero Electric, closely followed by Okinawa and Ampere. These three marques offer budget-friendly options, which appeal to the masses, while other factors driving people to accept these brands could be inflation and the high retail price of petrol. Ola Electric finds itself at the fourth spot, while the only electric bikemaker in the list, Revolt Motors, clinches the fifth spot.

One noteworthy name missing from this list is Ather Energy, as it has been facing supply chain issues. However, with the launch of the new Gen 3 scooters, expect Ather to find its way to the top soon. Additionally, the top four EV manufacturers in this list have outsold contemporary ICE manufacturers like Jawa-Yezdi and Aprilia-Vespa.

This demand for electric vehicles is only accelerated by EV subsidies like the Union’s FAME II subsidy and various State EV subsidies. However, a few States like Goa and Maharashtra have withdrawn the EV subsidies for reasons about which you can check out in our exclusive story here.
