Nearly all manufacturers have registered year-on-year growth, as high as 54% in some cases

Here Are India’s Most Popular Bikes

It’s not just us who want to put the woes of 2020 behind. Two-wheeler manufacturers were hit severely by the lockdown, with factories and dealerships remaining closed for months on end. The second half of the year brought about a resuscitation, and the manufacturers seem to have carried this momentum into 2021, with most of them registering strong year-on-year growth in January. The most improved of the lot is Yamaha, with a hefty 54% growth figure, up from 35,913 units last year to 55,151 this year.

But that number still pales in comparison to the 2,94,596 units sold by TVS in January 2021, 31% better than what it managed at the same time last year. Fellow Indian giant Bajaj managed to shift 3,84,936 units - a 16% boost over 2020. But the biggest fish in the pond, Hero MotoCorp, was actually the only manufacturer to see a drop in sales, down by 3% to 4,85,889 compared to the 5 lakh+ units shifted in January 2020.

Hero’s former partner Honda registered 11% growth, thanks to a monthly sales figure of 4,16,716, bringing it to within 70,000 units of Hero’s monthly sales. Royal Enfield has new products like the Meteor 350 to thank for its 8% growth, with 68,887 units sold in January 2021.
