Hero MotoCorp’s Project Sakhi CSR initiative has once again empowered women police officers, this time in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, with 100 scooters added to the patrolling squad. The initiative has been around for quite some time now and is solely devoted to making the lives of women police officers simpler. Hero donated its 125cc scooters -- the Destini 125 and the Maestro Edge 125 -- to the Gorakhpur police division.
The Indian two-wheeler manufacturer has been actively involved with Project Sakhi and has worked closely alongside 11 states (Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Telangana, Haryana, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Karnataka, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh) and 1 union territory (Puducherry).
There are slight mods to be found on these scooters, like GPS tracking, PA system, a siren and pepper spray amongst others. These items are said to make patrolling more effective for the female police officers.
Both the Destini 125 and the Maestro Edge 125 are powered by the same 124.6cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 9.12PS and 10.4Nm. These new figures are slightly more than what the engine made in its BS4 trim and it is all because it is now fuel-injected. The Maestro Edge 125 is the more family-oriented practical scooter of the two. It gets a 12-/10-inch wheel setup, the norm amongst the current crop of scooters. Sadly, the Destini 125 has to make do with 10-inch wheels at both ends. The Hero 125cc scooters go up against the likes of the Suzuki Access 125, the Honda Activa 125 BS6 and the Yamaha Fascino 125.
