Piaggio group unveiled the upcoming scooter in India from its performance brand- Aprilia SR 150 recently at Auto Expo 2016. The company is going to produce the scooter locally at its Baramati plant and it is speculated that it will go on sale by August this year. Expected to be priced under Rs. 1 lac (on-rad), new Aprilia SR 150 could share some of the parts from existing Vespa 150 that is manufactured and sold by its sister company in India.
The most important part shared by Aprilia SR 150 will be the 150cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 3-valve engine that powers the existing Vespa 150 scooters in India. The motor delivers 11.44bhp of maximum power at 7,000rpm and a peak torque up to 11.5Nm at just 5,500rpm. This upgraded version of the engine was introduced by the company in Vespa scooters recently in September 2015, before that the company was using only 125cc engine that is still available in the range.
Piaggio is already doing well in the premium scooter segment with its Vespa line-up and now it seems that it is eyeing on the sports segment with Aprilia SR 150. The styling of the scooter has been done according to the young generation and that will help the company to attract the younger buyers more.
