After being the centre of attraction at the 2016 Auto Expo, the upcoming SR150 scooter has been spotted at a dealership in India.
Enthusiasts were filled with joy when the Italian manufacturer, Aprilia, showcased its SR150 scooter at the 2016 Auto expo and announced that it would be launched in India. Now, the upcoming scooter has been spotted at one of its dealerships in Pune, hinting that its launch is nearing. It seems that the scooter was there to be taken for its homologation at the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). The vehicle was not camouflaged. However, the instrument console did have an Aprilia badge, working as the scooter’s identity card.
The Aprilia SR150 will be manufactured at its sister brand Piaggio’s facility in Baramati, Maharashtra. It is the first Aprilia product to be manufactured in India and the same will help curb the scooter’s cost. Featuring a sporty European styling, the scooter gets the same carbureted 150cc, air-cooled, three-valve engine that powers the new Vespa models. The motor has been tuned to deliver 11.6PS of power at 7,000rpm and a peak torque of 11.6Nm at 6,000rpm in the Vespa models, however, it might be re-turned to produce some extra horses for the SR150.
Apart from its edgy design, other key features of the Aprilia SR150 include dual halogen headlamp, twin-pod instrument cluster, 14-inch alloy wheels with premium fat tyres, a 220mm front disc brake, and sporty body graphics. It will be a unique product and is expected to be priced under Rs 1 lakh.
