Set to launch on 20th December
Bajaj is all set to launch the new Chetak on the 20th of December, which will most likely be an updated version. The electric scooter was spied testing and this is what we can understand from the spy shots.
Design
The upcoming Bajaj Chetak carries the same design as seen in the spyshots. It gets the same vintage style which is dominated by a round LED headlight in the front and a long swooping rear design. Single sided swingarm is carried forward from the existing model, as seen in the spy shots. The overall silhouette is the same.
Battery Pack and Chassis
From the looks of it, the Bajaj Chetak may tweak the chassis and reposition the battery pack underneath the floorboard. This relocation will benefit the Chetak in many ways such as better underseat storage which the current Chetak lacks, larger battery pack which will give it more range, lower centre of gravity which allows for better handling, improved weight distribution and better stability. This battery pack is likely to have more energy dense cells, allowing Bajaj to have either the same 3.2kWh capacity in a smaller form factor, or even more battery capacity, which means it might offer higher range.
Features
The spy images also show the inclusion of a TFT display. Now the current top variant of the Chetak does get a TFT but the feature list might just get even more extensive as Bajaj may introduce even more features. Surprisingly, the test mule appears to have a conventional key design, unlike the remote key fob that the current Chetak models get.
Launch date, Price and Rivals
The new Bajaj Chetak will launch on the 20th of December and is expected to command a slight premium over the outgoing models which start from Rs 99,998 up to Rs 1,40,444 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Once launched, it will go against the likes of Ather Rizta, Ampere Nexus, Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube and the recently launched Vida V2.
