What does Hero’s first electric scooter offer? We explain here

The Vida V1 is here, meant to take on the heavyweights of the premium electric scooter segment. If you’re looking to find out about what this new e-scoot from Hero MotoCorp’s sub-brand Vida packs, you have to read this:

Powertrain & Battery

At the heart of the Vida V1 is a 3.9kW motor with a peak rating of 6kW. This IP68-rated motor is coupled to a pair of removable IP67-rated battery packs: a 3.44kWh unit in the V1 Plus and 3.94kWh unit in the V1 Pro. The Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range of the V1 Plus and V1 Pro are claimed to be 143km and 165km respectively. While the claimed 0-40kmph time is 3.2 seconds and 3.4 seconds respectively for the V1 Plus and V1 Pro, the claimed top speed for both scooters is 80kmph.

The Vida V1 has fast charging as an option, wherein 0-80 percent is claimed to take less than 65 minutes. This port is located on the apron, and is the same unit as on the Ather 450X, which implies it’ll be compatible with Ather’s charging grid. With a home charging time of 0-80 percent is five hours and 15 minutes for the V1 Plus, the V1 Pro gets to 80 percent in five hours and 55 minutes.

Underpinnings

The Vida V1 gets a telescopic fork and an offset rear monoshock, while braking duties are shared between a front disc and rear drum brake. It rolls on 12-inch alloys wrapped in MRF Nylogrip Zapper G rubber – a 90 section unit up front and a 100-section unit at the rear.

This e-scooter offers 26 litres of underseat storage, with both the removable battery packs mounted. Each battery pack weighs 12kg.

Features

Like every e-scooter, the Vida V1 too features all LED lighting (special mention to the strikingly beautiful projector headlight and taillight), and boasts of a plethora of features including a 7-inch TFT touchscreen display with smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and the option to store rider and vehicle documents. It also gets four ride modes: Eco, Ride, Sport and Custom; and in the Custom mode, the rider can customise the amount of power, acceleration and regen needed.

While it has a touchscreen, it also has five-way toggle buttons on the left switchgear to access the menu, along with an SOS button on the right switchgear. The V1 also comes equipped with cruise control and a two-way throttle, with parking and boost functions. Well, getting to its most unique feature, the pillion seat is detachable! Yes, you can choose to ditch the pillion seat, and yet retain the storage space on this scooter.

Price, Variants and Colours

The Vida V1 is available in two variants – V1 Plus and V1 Pro – which are priced at Rs 1,45,000 and Rs 1,59,000 (ex-showroom), respectively. This electric scooter gets a five-year warranty, and here’s all you need to know about its booking and delivery timelines.

There are a total of three colours available on the V1 Plus – Matte White, Matte Sports Red and Gloss Black – while the V1 Pro gets an additional Matte Abrax Orange shade.

Rivals

The direct rivals to the Vida V1 include the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube, and the Bajaj Chetak. While the V1 Pro is the most expensive electric scooter amongst its rivals, the V1 Plus is slightly cheaper than the Ather and Chetak.

For around the same price, other petrol-powered alternatives include the Yamaha FZ-25, Yamaha Aerox 155, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and Bajaj Pulsar N250.
