Treading through treacherous terrain on an e-bike can be a daunting task…unless you have the Rungu Dualie e-bike. The Californian company claims to have solved the problems most fat tyre e-bike riders would face when venturing into tricky places by using a unique dual front tyre setup.

Still wondering how making the e-bike heavy is a good thing? The additional front wheel and its corresponding suspension and brake setup definitely would add weight, and in turn make pedaling a tad tougher, but then the additional traction and stability lets you plow your way through mud, loose sand or gravel without having to worry about the front end washing out. Furthermore, when going over rocky terrain, the second wheel could prevent you from losing balance when the rocks move under the e-bike. But what about the additional efforts required for you to pedal?

The Rungu Dualie is offered in as many as five variants, with different battery configurations. However, all the models share the same 52V mid-mounted motor. This motor is capable of producing an astounding 328Nm at the rear wheel. The battery packs vary from 780Wh to 936Wh, depending on the model. Though the range per charge hasn’t been revealed, the brand claims that the new batteries and motor can push these e-bikes on gradients as steep as 27 degrees.

Rungu has equipped the Dualie with impressive hardware too. The Rungu Dualie e-bikes pack two pairs of adjustable forks and two discs up front. Rungu has armed the e-bike with Maxxis tyres intended for trail and rough-road riding. The Dualie comes with a LCD instrument console that displays the basic tell-tale information. Rungu also has two types of LED headlights you can opt for. Heck, there’s even an option to add a trailer hitch for you to tow a small cart.

The Rungu Dualie is on sale for USD 4899, which translates to Rs 3.76 lakh, while the top model demands USD 8517 or Rs 6.39 lakh (both prices excluding Indian taxes and duties). And as much as we’d love to test these e-bikes on our roads, it is available only in the domestic market. But if you have your heart set on hitting the trails with an e-bike here, the EMotorad EMX is a good option.
