After tasting immense success in the commuter motorcycle segment, Honda has now set its eyes on the mid and high-capacity motorcycle segment in the country. Reportedly, the Japanese two-wheeler giant Honda is working on to bring the CBR500R at the Auto Expo next month. The bike is already available in the international market and is expected to reach Indian shores in a few months.
Aesthetically, the CBR500R is a fully-faired motorcycle with twin headlights at the front. The angular headlights, fairing and visor blend well with smooth lines, offering the face an attractive look. The black-coloured engine, split seat and side panel suits the colour scheme of the motorcycle. The LED tail lamp, short rear fender and wide rear tyre makes it appear to be a naked motorcycle from the back.
The bike uses fully digital instrument console and its big LCD features digital speedometer, bar-type tachometer, odometer, dual trip meter, mileage calculator and clock. Honda CBR500R is powered by a 471cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled PGM-Fi engine that churns out 48bhp at 8,500rpm, with peak torque of 43Nm at 7000rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
The bike takes less than 7 seconds to go from zero to 100kmph and can attain a top speed of 170kmph. Despite this exhilarating performance, the bike returns fuel economy of around 20km per litre. Overall, the Honda CBR500R certainly seems a good match for a market like India where a sports bike with a good price tag is still rare. We are expecting it to be placed within the price range of Rs. 4.25 lac - 4.75 lac.
Last year, Honda had launched its highly anticipated CBR650F, which was meant to be game changer. However, its price in India shattered the dreams of many afficionados. Irrespective, its power-packed performance and the features ensure the Honda CBR650F became a motorcycle that needs to be appreciated beyond its price tag, and managed to find a small section of buyers. Similarly, the success of the CBR500R will hang in the balance of the price announcement. We hope for the bike to make its India debut at the Auto Expo. Stay tuned for latest updates on the Honda CBR500R.
