Yamaha aims for 12 lakh units by 2017; new Saluto 125cc launched

Yamaha is making a fresh start to the Executive segment which comprise of 125cc models with the launch of new Yamaha Saluto, priced at Rs.52,000 ex-showroom Delhi. The Saluto brings in several new features starting with a new architecture, new engine and class leading lightweight construction and mileage. The company will slowly phase out the existing 125cc models in the lineup, SS125 and YBR125. Mr. Roy Kurian, Vice President, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd talks more about Yamaha’s plan to expand in India and the new Saluto.
On Yamaha’s growth in India and future expectations…
Yamaha has been posting better sales numbers when compared to the overall industry itself. In the last three years, Yamaha Motor India has sold 3.35 lakh units, 4.47 lakh units and 5.49 lakhs units. Going forward, we expect to reach total volume of 12 lakh units by 2017. In the Deluxe Segment, Yamaha has 19% market share in 2014 from 4% share in 2008. In the Scooter segment the number is has grown to 4.4% in 2014 from 0.8% in 2012. In states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Karnataka we have over 10% market share in the Scooter segment.
We are also planning to expand our sales and service network. We currently have 400 sales outlets and we are planning to add 150 more outlets and 2000 touch points by 2015.
About the new Yamaha Saluto…
Yamaha Saluto is the lightest vehicle in the 125cc segment and comes with Blue Core technology that combines higher combustion efficiency, power loss reduction and higher cooling efficiency. The Saluto weighs just 112 kg and boasts of class leading mileage of 78 kmpl. The lightweight also aids in smooth pickup and good handling maneuverability. The Saluto is built for better practical use with 180 mm ground clearance, while the handle position is moved 20 mm up and 11mm forward and foot pegs are 4 mm down and 20 mm forward when compared to YBR125.
