Planning to buy Yamaha’s newest neo-retro bike? You should read this first
Yamaha launched its first neo-retro motorcycle, the FZ-X, back in June. It is based on the 150cc Yamaha FZ-S FI / FZ Fi platform, and if you’re planning to buy one, take a look at the waiting period for this month:
Thankfully, the waiting period isn’t as long as other popular, bigger-displacement retro motorcycles, which sometimes stretch to several months. The exact timeline varies from dealership to dealership, so we’d suggest you check with your nearest showroom for the particulars.
Even though the design is retro, the Yamaha FZ-X comes with modern features such as an LED headlamp and a smartphone-compatible instrument cluster. That said, there’s no turn-by-turn navigation. One major issue is that the 149cc single-cylinder air-cooled, fuel injected engine feels a little too anaemic. However, the lack of performance is compensated with great fuel efficiency. In our tests, it returned 55.11kmpl in the city and 48.67kmpl on the highway. You can read more about how the bike performs in the real world in our road test review here.
In related news, Yamaha is all set to launch a sportier variant of the R15, called the R15M, soon. To know everything about this upcoming supersport, check this out. In the EV segment, the Japanese manufacturer has also joined hands with KTM, Honda and Piaggio to develop a standardised swappable battery system. Head here to know more.
