The Japanese manufacturer plans to equip all the products with smartphone connectivity
Bluetooth connectivity-- a feature once reserved for the so-called elite motorcycles has now found its way into puny commuters and scooters. Yamaha has been the latest to adapt the tech, for its FZ-FI and more recently, the FZ-X and the soon-to-be launched Fascino 125 and Ray-ZR 125. But has the revered Japanese manufacturer missed out on its most popular bikes-- the R15 and the MT-15? Certainly not.
The 155cc siblings were amongst the highest selling bikes last month and Yamaha is definitely updating these bikes with bluetooth connectivity soon. In fact, Yamaha announced that all the products in its portfolio will soon get smartphone connectivity.

At the moment, Yamaha India has the Motorcycle Connect X (seen on the FZ range) and the Y-Connect app seen on the FZ-X. While the former allures users with features like Answer Back, E-lock and Find My Bike, the latter packs more usable features, a lowdown of which has been given in this story. Yamaha is likely to equip the MT-15 and the R15 with the Y-Connect app, which also allows riders to compare their ‘ranking’ with other riders. That said, the apps miss out turn-by-turn navigation, which could have been a useful addition.
There’s no word on the launch date of the updated Yamaha R15 and the MT-15, however, we suspect the bikes could roll out during the festive season or even sooner. While the R15 may just get connectivity features, the MT-15 is likely to come with dual-channel ABS too. The new bikes could demand a premium of upto Rs 3,000 over the current Rs 1.40 lakh (MT-15) and Rs 1.52 lakh (R15) price tags.
