Yamaha has shocked the motorcycling world with the reveal of MT-10, the naked version of their YZF-R1. It is based on the R1S, the cheaper version for the American market of the full blown R1.
MT-10 takes the engine from R1S, the 998cc crossplane CP4, but it is tuned for better low and mid-range torque delivery. The revisions include newly designed intake, exhaust and fuelling systems, an optimised crank balance. Power figures are still a secret but they should be around 165-170bhp.
Electronic package is same as the R1 as well, excluding the IMU (Inertia Measurement Unit), and includes three riding modes (Standard, A, B), three mode switchable traction control, cruise control and assist & slipper clutch.
The delta-box frame is derived from the R1 as well with certain changes done to enhance handling agility. The wheelbase is shorter as well at 1400mm and the swing-arm is also R1 derived made of aluminum with upward truss. The subframe is bespoke made out of steel. The suspension is also from R1S with KYB 43mm USD front forks and a link type KYB mono-suspension at the back.
The MT-10, in all sense, is an R1 minus the fairing. The front looks totally menacing and has a Transformer like face with the headlight assembly resembling a robot. It is minamalistic yet functional. The LCD console is supposed to be jazzier than the R1’s unit and displays all the information required by today’s modern bike standards. The kerb weight is expected to be around 199kgs.
Yamaha is sure taking their MT range very seriously ranging from MT125 to the absolutely latest MT-10.
