[UPDATE: Yamaha has confirmed that the RX100 will be coming back to India. Check out the new details in our report]
A video of Yamaha RX100 being assembled in one of Escorts Yamaha factory in India resurfaced on the internet and it looks nothing less than historic, watching the iconic bike going through the factory tests and checks. This video is from its production years somewhere between 1985 and 1996.
As seen in the video, the RX100 is being assembled by the workers and being sent through for engine and performance tests. In the speed test, this two-stroke screamer is pushed to a speed of 90kmph, however, the bike could reach a top speed of 110kmph, which is essentially fast for a 98cc bike. The bike is also seen achieving 0-80kmph in about less than 10 seconds in the video. Apart from that the bike is also seen going through an rpm range test. All the while, you cannot help appreciate how good and raspy the exhaust of this two-stroke motorcycle sounds.
The Yamaha RX100 was launched in 1985, inspired by the much bigger RD350 which wasn't much of a success in the Indian market, however, the RX100 managed to become a roaring success and charmed everyone with its capabilities. The RX100 was not only adored by the masses (and still is) but is also one of the major bikes that revolutionised the two-wheeler industry in India.

Powered by the two-stroke 98.2cc engine, the RX100 introduced the Indian consumer to a performance-oriented small displacement motorcycle with a riding experience that nobody in its class could match up to. The RX100 produced a strong 11PS and 10.45Nm of torque in a package that weighed barely about 100kg.
Even today the RX100 holds a special place in the hearts of the masses and is seen on the roads in good numbers. The RX100 is very much loved in the modification community for the power it holds, and the aftermarket parts availability for this iconic bike. The ease with which the RX can be customised into a machine of your choice is truly an incredible potential, and recently a Mumbai-based custom maker has been morphing these two-stroke machines into fascinating scramblers that are actually functional.
