Yamaha Motors has launched its 850cc naked motorcycle, the MT-09 at a starting price of Rs. 10.2 Lac (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be brought as a CBU. The MT-09 has borrowed some of the styling cues from its younger sibling, the Yamaha MT-07. It will be available in two colour options namely - Matte Black and Race Blue and will compete against the Kawasaki Z800, Triumph Street Triple and Benelli TNT 899.
The bike gets its power from an 847cc, 3-cylinder, liquid cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve powertrain that is coupled to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. Its smooth engine is capable enough to produce 113.42bhp of power at 10,000rpm along with peak torque of 87.5Nm at 8,500rpm. From the safety perspective, the company has given 298mm Hydraulic dual disc up front and 245mm Hydraulic single disc at the rear. It employs telescopic forks at the front and swingarm assisted mono shock absorbers at the rear. The Japanese giant might also add traction control system having two distinct riding modes and ABS as an option.
Yamaha MT-09 is a streetfighter motorcycle which has been built around a compact die-cast aluminium frame. It is most likely to get keenly crafted fuel tank, raised handlebars and rear-set footpegs that offer upright riding stance and make it a convenient motorcycle for commuting as well as for cornering. The bike features fully digital LCD instrumental console narrowed aluminium handlebar and a brake pedal and forged aluminium shifters.
Commenting on the launch of MT-09, Masaki Asano, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor India Sales, "We are excited to introduce the MT-9 to the Indian market after its successful run globally. This launch will reiterate our commitment to offer bikers in India the very best mix of Yamaha's technological expertise coupled with style and performance. The MT-09 is essentially targeted at the youth who are looking for a thrill in their daily rides with great fuel efficiency".
