Yamaha Takes Off The Cover Off The XSR900 GP!

The neo-retro sports bike comes with a design reminiscent of the motorcycles used by legends like Lawson and Rainey

Yamaha has taken the covers off the XSR900 GP and it invokes a sense of nostalgia of Yamaha’s Grand Prix racing legacy. The bike comes with a design that is reminiscent of Yamaha GP 500s from the 80s, ridden by legends of the sport like Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey. 

But one shouldn’t be fooled by the retro design on the outside, ‘cause the motorcycle is still a modern machine that packs quite the punch both in terms of performance and tech. On the performance front, the XSR900 comes with a 890cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve, 3-cylinder engine that outputs 119 PS at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm at 7,000 rpm. 

When it comes to tech, the bike comes with modern features like a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster and an R1-derived 6-axis IMU that controls the extensive suite of rider aids like lean-sensitive traction control and ABS, slide control and front wheel lift control system. There are 3 riding modes (Sport, Street and Rain), and the rider also has the option to adjust the settings according to his desire using the ‘Custom’ mode.

Other features include clip-on handlebars, an adjustable 41 mm USD fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear, along with new aluminum wheels that are supposed to make the bike more responsive on the corners, according to the manufacturer. 

The bike comes with two colours options: Legend Red and Power Grey. Even though the bike looks so desirable,the XSR900 GP won’t be available in India.
