A few days ago, we informed you that the Japanese bike maker Yamaha is going to launch a new 250cc bike in India, which might be the R25 and will showcase it at EICMA 2012. But it hasn't been showcased at 2012 EICMA, which was a bit disappointing for all of us. However, the company has now confirmed its plans to launch a 250cc motorcycle in India by 2014. We are not sure about all the details of this quarter-litre machine from Yamaha, as it is remain sketchy till now. We are expecting that Yamaha will unveil this 250cc motorcycle at the 12th Auto Expo in February 2014. While it is expected to go on sales in later that year.

A news agency was in talks with Mr. Hiroyuki Suzuki, and he told that Yamaha currently plans to focus on scooters and will not launch any new motorcycles for next two years. However they will bring updates on their existing bikes and the company’s next motorcycle launch will be the 250cc motorcycle in 2014. Yamaha will launch more scooters, including a 125cc scooter targeted at male riders. The company will also update its current motorcycle line-up by giving it refreshments over the next year.

“We will focus on the scooters category for next two years, but in 2014 we will launch powerful sporty 250cc bike in the Indian market. There is a good market for this premium segment which we would like to tap,” Hiroyuki Suzuki, MD and CEO, Yamaha India, said. “The motorcycles manufactured in India meet the advanced specification of developed markets and they are produced at a lower cost. The price is almost double in Japanese market. We are sending R15 to Japan to test market, and if the response is good, we may explore more products for export to Japan and other advanced markets,” he further added.

The bikes details are still sketchy, but we are expecting it to be an all new 250cc motorcycle on the lines of the R15. The new bike might boast the designing style of the R15 and will share the parts with it, to cut off the prices. The Yamaha R250 might have a twin-cylinder machine, same as the Honda CBR250R, which will be the closest competitor of the bike. We are expecting a price tag somewhere around the CBR250R. Hero MotoCorp and TVS are also planning a 250cc bike by 2014, while Piaggio is also planning to bring the Aprilia RS200 in the same year.
