This Chinese ADV scooter goes up against the Honda ADV350

The arrival of the Honda ADV350 marked the turning point for the global scooter scene, taking them from just being urban runabouts to machines with a little more ability to handle things when the tarmac ends. The adventure scooter also got a JDM special edition. You can read more about it here. Its launch was the beginning of a new approach to ADV scooters, and many manufacturers have tried to bank on the success of such scooters. Case in point, Chinese manufacturer Zongshen. To make further inroads into this burgeoning adventure scooter segment, Zongshen recently released the 2022 iteration of the Cyclone RT2 ADV scooter.

At the Cyclone RT2’s heart is a 250cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine, churning out 17.23PS and 22.5Nm. This puts it very close to its direct rival, the Kymco S250, but below the Honda ADV350. Talking about it, the Honda ADV350 scooter was unveiled at the 2021 EICMA. You can read about it here

In terms of design, a small beak up front gives it a rugged look, completing the ADV touch. But with its utility and convenience, it’s still a maxi-scooter at heart. Under the skin is a double cradle frame with a telescopic fork at the front along with twin coil springs at the rear.

The braking system is handled by single discs at the front and rear with dual-channel ABS. The 2022 Zongshen Cyclone RT2 comes shod with a 14-inch front and 13-inch rear wheel with alloy rims with tubeless dual-purpose tyres, which should give the RT2 sufficient off-road credentials.

On the features front, the Cyclone RT2 gets a full LED lighting system, a 5.6-inch TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, a USB charging port and a manually adjustable windscreen. A seat height of 780mm makes it more accessible than its competitors. Zongshen is offering the Cyclone RT2 in five colours: lime green, gray, white, black and silver.

At a price of 20,800 Yuan, which is approximately Rs 2.43 lakh, it is quite an expensive scooter. That said, it’s unlikely to make its way to the Indian shores.

Unfortunately, there are no ADV scooters in India. But if you’re looking for a maxi-styled scooter, you can have a look at the Suzuki Burgman Street, Aprilia SXR 125, SXR 160 and the Yamaha Aerox 155.
