Royal Enfield is testing the 2017 Continental GT in Europe, Euro 4 compliant engine and ABS on the cards
Royal Enfield might just update its flagship Continental GT soon. The 2017 version has been spotted testing in Europe. The spy shots show the test mule as having ABS rings on both wheels suggesting the introduction of a dual channel ABS. To sell in Europe, the bike will have an Euro IV compliant engine as well.
To comply with the stricter Euro 4 emission standards, the 535cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine will get some tweaks that might include a new exhaust system with a larger catalytic converter. This move might lead to a drop of a couple of PS. The existing mill develops 29.5PS and 44Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.
Baring the visible ABS rings, the braking system appears untouched and the new bike could get the same 300mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes clamped by Brembo calipers. The 41mm front telescopic forks and twin Paioli gas-charged rear shocks also might remain unchanged along with the Pirelli Sport Demon rubber.
Other updates that can be expected from the 2017 RE Continental GT are daytime running light and Auto Headlamp On (AHO) feature that is soon going to be mandatory for all the new bikes. The addition of ABS might push prices up over the existing bike by quite a margin.
