2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Launched At Rs 19 Lakh

The flagship motorcycle from Suzuki is completely new with a host of new electronic aids

Suzuki Motorcycles has launched its flagship motorcycle the GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R in India. The GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R are priced at Rs 19 lakh and Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle was first launched 30 years back and has sold over 1 million units globally. Bookings have commenced for the new motorcycle at an amount of Rs 1-5 lakh depending upon the city. The bikes will be delivered to the customers by June 2017.

The 2017 model is the sixth generation GSX-R1000 and according to Suzuki, it is a completely new motorcycle with revised styling and improved aerodynamics. The bike is powered by a 999.8cc liquid cooled DOHC in-line four engine which is good for 202.1PS of power and 117.5Nm of torque. To put things into perspective, the power of the new bike is up by a massive 16.5PS and torque by a marginal 0.9Nm over the 2016 version. The company has equipped the motorcycle with Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing derived from Suzuki’s MotoGP motorcycle. The bike sports a new chassis which is more compact and narrower than before and gets Showa forks. Braking duties are handled by dual disc brakes at the front with Brembo monoblock piston calipers with motion track braking system equipped with ABS. The bike is shod with Bridgestone RS10 radial tyres and gets all LED headlights along with a fully digital LCD display unit. Additionally, the bike is also equipped with the new ten-mode Motion Track Traction Control System (MT-TCS) which, with IMU influence, fine-tunes the power delivery according to the track, thereby helping the rider push his/her boundaries while riding on the track.

The slightly more advanced GSX-R1000R gets launch control, bi-directional quick shifter, Showa balance free suspension, cornering ABS and LED position lights. The GSX-R1000 is offered in Metallic Triton Blue and Metallic Matt Black, while the GSX-R1000R is available in Metallic Triton Blue and Glass Sparkle Black.

The GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R are priced at Rs 19 lakh and Rs 22 lakh. (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. Once launched, the bikes will go up against the likes of Kawasaki ZX10R, Yamaha R1, Honda CBR 1000RR, Ducati 1299 Panigale and Aprilia RSV4.
