The updated RTR 160 4V could command a premium of up to Rs 10,000 over the current model

  • The test mule could be a BS6-compliant model.
  • It features a redesigned headlamp unit.
  • Expect TVS to launch the updated RTR 160 4V by the end of this year.

TVS has already updated two of its motorcycles in 2019. The company had recently updated the Apache RR 310 and it also launched India’s first ethanol-powered motorcycle. However, the bike maker might also be planning to update the RTR 160 4V as a test mule of the bike was spotted for the first time sans camouflage. The 2019 model was spotted sporting a new headlamp unit, which seems to be a bit sharper compared to the current model and it could be an LED unit.

However, the most significant change is the addition of a BS6-compliant engine. With the new emission norms kicking in next year, it is highly likely that the test mule could be a BS6 model. However, it remains to be seen whether the BS6-compliant engine will have a power bump or not. For reference, the current fuel injected 159.7cc engine pumps out 16.8PS of power and 14.8Nm of torque, and is paired to a five-speed gearbox.

Apart from the engine, expect the same underpinnings as the current model. The test mule seems to be near-production ready, which could mean that TVS might launch the updated RTR 160 4V by the end of this year or early next year. With the addition of an updated motor and a few cosmetic updates, the final asking price might bump up by Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 over the current top-end EFi ABS model, which retails at Rs 99,101 (ex-showroom Delhi).
