2020 Mahindra Mojo BS6 India Launch Soon

The upcoming motorcycle has been teased on Mahindra’s social media channels 

• Powered by a fuel-injected and BS6-compliant engine. 
• Mahindra is likely to launch the Mojo UT 300 version first. 
• The bike will feature dual-channel ABS.
• India launch likely in the coming few weeks. 

We thought the Mahindra Mojo has been laid to rest given its rather adventurous (development time) and lacklustre (sales) Indian two-wheeler journey. But, like SRK’s iconic dialogue ‘picture abhi baaki hai mere dost’ Mahindra isn’t done with its flagship bike, yet. It has now shared an image on social media confirming the Mojo BS6 will be launched soon. And from the teaser image, it looks like the BS6 version of the Mojo UT 300 variant. 

Our readers will remember that the Mahindra Mojo UT 300 was a desperate attempt by the brand to make the bike more popular with a massive Rs 25,000 price cut. Unlike the Mojo XT 300, the new variant ditched the USD fork, fuel injection, Pirelli tyre, and one exhaust muffler to be more cost effective, sadly it was too little, too late and couldn’t revive sales. With the introduction of the Jawa brand, which uses a motor based on the Mojo, it seemed that Mahindra would focus its attention on the classic marquee, however, this new announcement changes things.

As for the 2020 Mahindra Mojo BS6, we expect its styling to be similar to its predecessor with minor tweaks and maybe some new colour options. In the teaser pic, we can see rim tapes or it could be a contrasting finish on the alloy wheels. The 295cc liquid-cooled motor on the UT 300 saw a major drop in power as it went for a carburettor. It produced 23PS and 25.2Nm of torque, in comparison the Mojo XT 300’s engine pumped out 28PS and 30Nm of torque. Since the new engine is fuel-injected to meet the new BS6 emission norms, we are hoping that the Mojo UT 300 BS6 will be more powerful than its predecessor. Underpinnings will be carried forward from the older bike. The twin-tube frame is suspended on a telescopic fork and a monoshock. It’s likely to run on MRF tyres to keep cost under check. Stopping power will be provided by disc brakes on either end with dual-channel ABS. 

With action in the 250-300cc space gaining momentum, Mahindra will be hoping that its touring-focused motorcycle can find a spot for itself. But given the more modern options such as the new Bajaj Dominar 250, Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Suzuki Gixxer 250, it’s an even more uphill task for the Mojo than 2015, when it made its debut. The Mahindra Mojo UT 300 was on sale for Rs 1.65 lakh and we expect the 2020 Mojo UT 300 to be priced between Rs 1.75 and 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom).
