The flagship Bavarian adventure bikes could come in the 40th Anniversary Edition livery
Hot on the heels of the 2021 S 1000 R launch, BMW Motorrad India has begun teasing the 2021 R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure 40th Anniversary Edition on its social media handles. The flagship adventure models could make their debut in India as early as the end of this week.
The 2021 models get a host of new features, and even new paint schemes. For starters, the 2021 BMW R 1250 GS now gets two new paint schemes-- Triple Black and Light White colours, in addition to the 40th Anniversary livery. The R 1250 GS Adventure shares the same Triple Black and 40th Anniversary colours with the sibling, but gets a new Ice Grey paint job unique to the Adventure model.

The highlight of the 2021 model is the new adaptive cornering LED headlight. BMW has achieved this by using a reflector that can swivel upto 30 degrees for improved visibility around corners. Offered as an optional extra, BMW also intends to add functionality like “follow me home” to it and we’d love to see it on the India-spec model.
Other changes on the bike include dynamic traction control and “eco” riding mode as standard. The German manufacturer has even equipped its ABS Pro which not just prevents wheel lock but works to modulate pressure on both the brakes even at times when only the front brake has been used. Furthermore, the Hill Start Control Pro has been improved.
The 2021 BMW R 1250 GS and the 2021 R 1250 GS Adventure continue to be powered by the 1254cc boxer twin engine sending 136PS and 143Nm to the rear wheel via a shaft drive.
With the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250’s India debut and Ducati Multistrada V4 geared up for a debut later this month, it was about time BMW pulled out its big gun. The BMW R 1250 GS is priced at Rs 20.45 lakh while the Adventure variant demands Rs 22.35 lakh. We expect the new models to demand a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the current model.
