  • Expect more sophisticated electronics, apart from the cleaner engine.
  • Could be priced at around Rs 20 lakh-22 lakh in India.

Suzuki has finally teased the 2021 iteration of the famous Dhoom bike, the Suzuki Hayabusa. Going by the teaser video, it looks more of a mild update as opposed to an all-new machine. The Japanese brand will unveil the motorcycle globally on February 5, and we expect the India launch to take place a few months later, probably in July. The older-generation 2020 Suzuki Hayabusa was priced at Rs 13,74,941 (ex-showroom Delhi), whereas the new-gen model could cost around Rs 20 lakh-22 lakh (ex-showroom). That’s because the bike is expected to enter our shores via the CBU route initially.

A closer look at the teaser video reveals a much sharper headlamp and tail lamp design. Even the instrument cluster has been revamped but thankfully, it still retains the twin-pod analogue goodness. There’s a small TFT screen in the middle, which seems to show the lean angle, gear position, Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS: Suzuki’s jargon for riding mode), clock, ambient temperature and settings for other electronic aids.

Keen-eyed enthusiasts will notice the small lettering with numbers in the TFT screen. It gives us a hint about what the upcoming Hayabusa will pack in terms of electronic nannies. The bike could feature advanced rider aids like a proper 6-axis IMU-enhanced cornering ABS, more sophisticated multi-level riding modes, power modes, traction control, wheelie control and engine braking modes. Oh, and you can also see the needle hit the 300kmph mark, so the bike will still be a powerful missile on two-wheels as before, albeit a little more tameable with the new electronics package.

Since it is a mid-life update of sorts, Suzuki is unlikely to use an all-new engine. Expect the good old 1,340cc inline-four cylinder DOHC liquid-cooled engine to be tweaked to comply with the Euro 5 / BS6 emission norms. The output figures were 195PS and 155Nm before, but we can see Suzuki extracting a little more power out of the mill to help it enter the revered 200PS Club.

The chassis might also be tweaked a little to go with the improved performance. Expect more premium suspension with compression, rebound and preload adjustability on both ends. The brakes could be upgraded too. Suzuki might use twin discs with the top-of-the-line Brembo Stylema calipers up front and a disc with a Brembo caliper at the rear.

Coming to the looks, much of the bulk has been retained but the design language has been tempered with several sharp lines all over the bodywork. The curvy tail section looks a little sharper now. All in all, the upcoming 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa wouldn’t simply be a cleaner running bike than before; it will be a more rounded package that’s in tune with the modern times. We’re excited to see the intricacies of the motorcycle on February 5. Are you?
