The official global reveal of the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa is just around the corner, and a teaser video of the bike has already been leaked online. Quite a lot has changed from the previous-gen models when it comes to styling, aerodynamics and electronics. We hope the same can be said for hardware, although there’s no concrete information on that as of now. The bike is slated to make its official global debut on February 5.
Let us quickly run you through all the changes on the 2021 Busa. The first difference you’d notice as soon as the updated bike pulls up alongside the previous-gen models is the sharper styling. Every line running from the front fender to the rear quarter panels looks edgier. The headlight looks sharper and is flanked by fang-like LED DRLs.
Massive intakes on the front fascia feed air into the engine and funnel hot air from the engine away from the rider using those ginormous exhaust vents on the side panels. Improvements like these along with the distinctive teardrop design of the Busa should offer a better drag coefficient and help the bike slice through the wind with ease. Tiny details like copper highlights around the headlight, side panels and rear quarter panels really bring the bike to life.
The angular fairing flows into two brand new and abnormally large exhaust end cans and a flatter tail section featuring a split LED tail light.
At the heart of it all lies a 1340cc mill, which is likely to remain unchanged. While there’s no official word from Suzuki we expect Suzuki to eke out a bit more from the engine to push it past the 200PS mark. This will not only make it lighting quick but also put it up against the likes of the Kawasaki H2, 2021 Ducati Panigale V4, and the Honda CBR1000RR-R. For reference, the previous-gen Hayabusa put out 195PS and 155Nm.
Putting a leash on all this power is a comprehensive suite of electronic ride aids which may include a bidirectional quickshifter, a 6-axis IMU, traction control, wheelie control, cornering ABS, engine braking and power modes-- all tweakable via new switch cubes on the left switchgear and viewed on a revised digital inset which sits smack in between the twin-pod analogue consoles.
The bike's hardware might witness some improvements. This may comprise of a lighter chassis, possibly a semi-active suspension, and top-notch Brembo stylema monobloc callipers.
As for the price, well, it's likely to cost around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 22 lakh in India initially as Suzuki may bring in the bike here via the CBU route. But that's still a fair price to pay for a bike this powerful and bearing the legendary Hayabusa name. Expect Suzuki to launch the 2021 Hayabusa in India by July this year. There are three colours to choose from: silver, white and black.
