The Italian mid-size supersport is expected to make its debut earlier next year

In 2023, Aprilia announced its lineup for the year and hinted that a new mid-size supersport would make its India debut later in the year. However, that bike was never launched; but earlier this year, a test mule of the same was spotted in India. Now, though, what we believe is the upcoming Aprilia RS440 has been spotted again in production-ready guise.

The overall design of the RS440 looks pretty similar to the camouflaged bike spotted earlier, and even this near-production test mule retains a sporty riding stance with rear-set footpegs and a split-seat setup. But what’s clearly visible now is its twin-spar frame and chunky aluminum swingarm. We can see that it’s running an upside-down fork, as well a radial brake caliper at the front.

What’s also visible on this bike is a fully-digital instrument cluster, which we expect to be a colour TFT unit with smartphone connectivity. The tail light and rear indicators are clearly LED, so we expect all-LED lighting on the RS440 as well.

As the nomenclature suggests, the RS440 is likely to get a high-revving, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 420-440cc engine. This engine is likely to make 43-44PS of power (to comply with the European A2 license) along with 42-23 Nm of torque.

When launched, the bike is likely to be manufactured at Piaggio’s Baramti plant to keep prices in check. That said, we expect the bike to carry a price tag of Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom), which is steep when compared to its rivals like the KTM RC 390, Ninja 300 and BMW G 310 RR. But since Aprilia is known for making lightweight, high-performance motorcycles, we expect the RS440 will be able to justify its high asking price.
